''No reverberatory effect of the Great War has caused American public opinion more solicitude than the failure of the ‘melting- pot.’ (Bourne, 1916).” The quote spoke volumes to me, it gave a broad understanding that the natives are a bunch of hypocrites when it comes to what real Americanization looks like. 

The quote also sheds a light on the fact that the melting pot refers to  is a monocultural metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements "melting together" with a common culture.
